Willow Creek Repents

Given the fact that we are exploring the Morgenthaller's claims in Worship Evangelism, I was struck by the news out of Willow Creek that they are reevaluating how they do ministry to seekers. In a response to this article, Greg Hawkins points out that the issues they have discovered are not limited to Willow Creek nor has Willow Creek given up its evangelistic focus on the unchurched. Instead they are simply (actually not so simply) reevaluating what needs to be done to truly move people into a committed relationship with Jesus Christ.

what i heard was they found people didn't really move from the seeker services to the 'meatier' services as expected. so what to do w/a service full of 5 yr old regular 'seekers.' this has been our experience as well, seeming, don't take this wrong, to have 'raised' a service full of people from whom nothing was ever expected, which is pretty much what we got. a lot of my recent reads say aim high - have expectations - and leave the mysterious and liturgical stuff in - which we ran from thinking that was the latest, greatest wave to catch.
